When prisoners mean profit, the numbers don’t go down

As reported in the Guardian today, the UK government in its infinite wisdom is pushing for more private prisons.

Looking at what has happened with the take off of the American Industrial Prison Complex, they actually have quota targets they need to hit. This is done through draconian laws and targeting specific ethnic minorities. When was it ever a good idea to lock people up for profit? There’s a great documentary ‘The House I Live In’ which illustrates how messed up the industrial prison complex actually is and the human cost is laid bare.

The system we live in is sick and we need change! We need serious debate on this but just like the privatisation of the NHS, the media and politicians will let us down. The floodgates will open, especially if they drop the ECHR and they will. Spread the word.
